You can find out a food’s GI rating in a few ways. First, keep an eye out for the certified Low-GI Symbol — it’s your trusted guide to healthier food choices.
Foods that carry the Low-GI Symbol have not only had their GI tested in an accredited laboratory, but also meet very strict nutrient criteria, which include specific limits for carbohydrate, kilojoules, total fat, saturated fat, sodium and, when appropriate, fibre and calcium.
The Low-GI Symbol Program requires a product’s GI rating to be displayed near its nutrition panel. By 2015, Australian food laws will require products that make low-GI claims to include the GI rating in the panel itself.
